Dr. med. vet. Hilmar Timm Gudehus

Bio:

Dr. Gudehus brings an extensive equestrian background from his upbringing in Germany to his successful career in veterinary medicine. After earning his degree from the Munich Veterinary School in 2003, he began his professional journey at the Munich racetrack, which coincided with the completion of his doctorate research in 2006. His postgraduate training includes an internship at California Equine Orthopedics and a surgical residency at Louisiana State University, culminating in a Master’s degree in 2010 and full accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

In 2011, Dr. Gudehus achieved board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), followed by certification with the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in 2014. His career has spanned several countries, including New Zealand and Germany, before he settled in the United States in 2016. Here, he established a Satellite Hospital for Purdue University in Indiana, close to the racetracks, and has served as a consulting surgeon both nationally and internationally.

Since 2016, Dr. Gudehus has also been involved with performance dogs, leading him to pursue a cross-species surgical training. He is currently working towards dual accreditation with the ACVS to gain Diplomate Status in small animal surgery, leveraging his rich experience in equine surgery. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Gudehus is passionate about training and breeding German hunting dogs, sharing this interest with his wife, who is a small animal veterinarian.
