Dr. Russell White grew up in the Bay Area of California where he began working with animals from a young age. A growing interest in wildlife, and a lifelong passion for playing music, encouraged Dr. White to study ecology and music at the University of California at San Diego from which he graduated in 2012. He then went on to receive his DVM in 2016 from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, in hopes to use his veterinary knowledge to work with wild and zoo animal populations. During his education, he found a passion and aptitude for surgery which propelled him towards specializing in the subject after graduation. Dr. White completed a rotating internship at VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center in San Diego, California in 2017 where he furthered his surgical skills in preparation for a three-year surgical residency which he completed in 2020 at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Dr. White joined the IndyVet team in 2020 not only to help provide the best surgical care to the pets of Indianapolis, but to also work closely with the Indianapolis Zoo to provide surgical care to those animal populations as well. Dr. White is eager to provide soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurologic surgical needs, but his special interests are trauma and wound repair, minimally invasive techniques, and gastrointestinal surgery.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. White is a glass blowing and metal working artist, a musician trained in piano and various stringed instruments, and a chef always willing to experiment with new ingredients or recipes. His dog, Malcolm, also encourages him to hike and kayak whenever possible.
