Rick Lyons



Dr. Lyons is a native Hoosier and graduated from the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. Following graduation, he worked in a mixed animal/equine practice for four years and in a general small animal practice for three years. Dr. Lyons worked in Emergency Medicine in Indianapolis for 12 years prior to taking a teaching position for five years at Harrison College in the Veterinary Technician Program. Dr. Lyons has held positions as a veterinary compliance officer at a local human hospital in their research department, and as a regulatory veterinarian with the State of Indiana Horse Racing Commission for seven years.

Dr. Lyons special interests focus on emergency medicine and surgery. Dr. Lyons particularly enjoys soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. His wife Shari is also a veterinarian, and has two grown boys, Paul and Noah.

Dr. Lyons is very active and accomplished in many areas. His outside activities include antique automobile repair and restoration, toy train collecting, bicycling, motorcycling, scuba diving, and now flying since recently receiving his private pilot license.

Dr. Lyons is excited to be back in the emergency veterinary medicine arena at IndyVet.
